Honest and open discussion of your concerns is essential to the therapeutic process. All individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions, and phone discussions with Bloomingdale Psychological Services are confidential, as we adhere to the code of confidentiality and privacy mandated by the Code of Ethics of Mental Health Professionals. We explicitly explain the nature of all services provided to clients, and if psychological services are court ordered or otherwise mandated, we inform the client of the limits of confidentiality. We do not reveal confidential information without client consent or without sound ethical justification. The general requirement that therapists keep information confidential does not apply when disclosure is required to protect the safety of clients or others from serious and foreseeable harm. Otherwise, we will release information to other parties only if the client directs us in writing to do so. In situations where the client is a minor, any and all disclosure or consent is obtained from the parent or guardian of the minor client, but care is taken to preserve confidentiality and refrain from disclosure of information that might adversely affect treatment. | |
